What is Pilates?

Pilates is a conditioning form of exercise that rebalances the body, brings it into correct alignment and builds strength from the inside out.

It is a combination of slow, controlled movements - we offer mat based Pilates which teaches mat work and standing exercises.

It will improve posture and relieve unwanted stress and tension, give a flatter stomach and trimmer waist and improve flexibility.

It is beneficial for injury prevention, a strong, healthier back, and is excellent for remedial and rehabilitation work.

Pilates is based on the work of Joseph Pilates (1880 - 1967) who created a series of exercises that built strength without bulk and balanced strength with flexibility.

Key principles covered are: relaxation, concentration, alignment, breathing, centring, co-ordination, stamina and flowing movements.

We are happy to advise which course may be suitable for you.
