About Pilates

Pilates is a movement-based therapy derived from the original concepts developed by Joseph Pilates during the early 1900’s. Joseph suffered with ill health and started to experiment with different types of fitness training to create his own series of exercises offering the perfect balance of strength and flexibility.

Today, Pilates is widely acknowledged as one of the most effective techniques to rebalance the mind and body, focus on optimal postural alignment and build strength from the inside out. Regular practice can help reverse the effects of gravity, excessive sitting and stress; facilitating improved muscle tone, balance and joint mobility.

For athletes, Pilates can complement their training by enhancing performance and avoiding injury. For those experiencing muscle or joint pain, Pilates can support remedial and rehabilitation therapies offered by other health professionals.

A year ago I had chronic lower back pain and since doing Pilates my core muscles are so much stronger and the lumbar discomfort has completely disappeared. A small and very friendly gym, such a refreshing change from previous experiences!

Both instructors are aware of individual needs and advise appropriately. Monday’s class is more advanced but the classes support each other very well. My joints are more flexible and strong as a result of these classes.

I was recommended to Pilates by my consultant to slow down the effects of my Neurological condition.
I found the class challenging but doable and a big help both physically and mentally!
Would recommend to both able and disabled persons to maintain fitness and mobility. Well explained and supervised.

I have been attending the Pilates classes at Wellow Fitness Centre for over 3 years. The level of instruction is superb with individual support given, as the class numbers are restricted to 10.
Pilates has particularly improved an ex aching back problem and is excellent for general joint mobility and range of movement. Thank you!
